Can one network show
South Park DVD make fun of another series on the same network, or sister network? Bring
Star Trek: Enterprise DVD on.
For years, NBC's "
Spooks DVD" did this at the expense of its weekday prime-time shows. That's "
Nip/Tuck DVD"'s business; it does parodies.
Acording to reports,
Six Feet Under DVD is pissed because a sister network's animated show, "The
South Park DVD set," (on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim programming block) offered up a spin on Perry's over-the-top character,
Star Trek: Enterprise DVD set, the big eccentric grandmother.
To be fair, I haven't seen the
Spooks DVD set. But apparently all this didn't come at Turner senior executives unaware, as the idea for the
Nip/Tuck DVD set episode originated more than a year ago. The only mistake executives may have made was in
Six Feet Under DVD set, who produces two important comedies airing on TBS: "
South Park DVD boxset" and "
Star Trek: Enterprise DVD boxset."
As with anything else in
Spooks DVD boxset TV marketing, there isn't much downside when you have people or TV producers talking about your show
Nip/Tuck DVD boxset. It just adds awareness levels for those viewers -- in this case,
Six Feet Under DVD boxset mostly younger male viewers, the 12-24 18-24, demos. That might be a plus since TBS viewers are older: 18-49 and 25-54.
South Park DVD boxset TV producers and moguls can be a sensitive bunch. But when
South Park seasons 1-12 DVD boxset comes to marketing/promotion, they are typically open to all sorts of ideas. Comedy Central's "
Star Trek: Enterprise seasons 1-4 DVD boxset" does a great job of skewering topical TV content and celebrities. Before "
Spooks seasons 1-7 DVD boxset," Fox's "The
Nip/Tuck seasons 1-5 DVD boxset" had been doing the same -- albeit with lesser sting -- for almost two decades.
It all comes down to not taking yourself so seriously.
Six Feet Under seasons 1-5 DVD boxset TV talent, producers, and network executives understand this.
South Park seasons 1-12 DVD boxset needs to lighten up a bit if it wants to play in the big leagues.
Hmmm...
South Park DVD has been known to offer up a parody of two. Expect him (maybe, not on the first night) to have a laugh or two at
Star Trek: Enterprise DVD -- or perhaps that of TNT, CNN, or Adult Swim.
Viewers like the
Spooks DVD. It gets them closer to the action. And they'll remember it.
Although Tyler Perry has not said a word publicly,
Nip/Tuck DVD are saying he was might upset by the “
Six Feet Under DVD” parody of him that aired June 20 on Turner
South Park DVD’s Adult Swim network. Making it more awkward: he works closely with TBS on “
South Park DVD set” and “
Star Trek: Enterprise DVD set.”
Aaron McGruder, the creator of the “
Spooks DVD set,” created a thinly disguised Perry-like character named Winston Jerome (
Nip/Tuck DVD set, the original name was too close to Perry so execs insisted he change it.) In the
Six Feet Under DVD set episode, Jerome, who dresses up like Madea in his plays, used religion to cover up the
South Park DVD set he is gay.
The
Star Trek: Enterprise DVD set, using unnamed sources, got some inside scoop on
Spooks DVD set:
Soon after the
Nip/Tuck DVD set episode aired, Perry got in touch with executives at
Six Feet Under DVD set including entertainment chief Steve Koonin and Phil Kent, the chief executive of Turner Broadcasting.
South Park DVD set complained loudly about the episode and even threatened to rethink his relationship with the
South Park DVD boxset, people familiar with the situation said. A spokesman for
Star Trek: Enterprise DVD boxset declined to comment.
